Takashi Murakami has announced a new expansion to Kaikai Kiki, his global art empire. He’s bringing it to Hollywood! Why you ask? To open Murakami’s animation and film studio. Awesome.
“This studio represents a great step in the evolution of Kaikai Kiki and gives me a closer proximity to the community of artists with whom I hope to collaborate as I continue my explorations of animated and live-action film,” said Murakami in a statement.
This is pretty exciting, Murakami’s work is perfect for animation! It’ll be interesting to see how these films develop and what kinds of tones they take on. Murakami has always been known to do pieces around the subjects of consumerism, war, peace and other political themes. Will these films continue that? Oohh! Can’t wait to see…
55DSL is a streetwear brand that’s been around since 1984. They pride themselves on shaking things up on a regular basis and always getting in on a piece of the action. Their motto is to “live at least 55 seconds per day”….whatever that means. But I digress.
This year they’re partnering with Cut&Paste to present the 55DSL Logo Remix. The Logo Remix challenges graphic designers, illustrators, and typographers, as well as all-around creative types, to take the iconic 55DSL Shield logo and spin it into a remix that reflects 55DSL’s culture and spirit, its origins and its future.
The Grand Prize winner’s design will be featured on a T-shirt design for the 2010 Spring/Summer collection and 1,055€. Which amounts to, given the current value of the dollar I’d say a buck fifty, about $350. Deadline is December 5th, so hurry up and get your entries in!
Times are tough, I know I know, what am I telling you for? It isn’t as if you live under a rock and aren’t aware of such things, right? Right. Okay, moving right along. Domino magazine has a nice slideshow of some recent $1 design finds which are nothing if not inspiring. Have a look see and discover that you don’t need to pay a lot to dress your space.
I thought this was pretty funny, via MediaBistro.
This excerpt from Carrie Fisher’s autobiography is entitled: “Dad ran off with Liz Taylor, Cary Grant lectured me about drugs, George Lucas ruined my life: The extraordinary autobiography of CARRIE FISHER”
Remember the white dress I wore all through that film? George came up to me the first day of filming, took one look at the dress and said: ‘You can’t wear a bra under that dress.”OK, I’ll bite,’ I said. ‘Why?’ And he said: ‘Because … there’s no underwear in space.’
He said it with such conviction. Like he had been to space and looked around and he didn’t see any bras or panties anywhere.
He explained. ‘You go into space and you become weightless. Then your body expands but your bra doesn’t, so you get strangled by your own underwear.’
Yes, it is very fancy…I’m seeing a big lace trend lately. First there was this Lace Packing Tape spotted over at Oboiler ($10/ roll). This stuff can pretty up any package don’t you think?
Then I saw this Lace Hotel Concept by Dima Loginoff. Very impressive.
And then tonight, as if to say “Yes I am Lace and I am now undeniably a full fledged design trend” I saw Lace at my local Target. This time it came in the form of, you guessed it, The Fanciest Water Bottle I’ve Ever Seen. The Christmas 08 Christian Lacroix Evian water bottle goes for $13.95 a bottle; fancy indeed.
